Through past experience PPR have determined a range of the more commonly required ring sizes and types, which are kept in stock for regular customers.

Due to the wide range of Piston Ring Sizes, Types, Joints, Materials etc. it is impossible to maintain stock of all possible ring configurations. In particular, re-furbished equipment often requires oversize rings to compensate for re-boring, honing or other re-machining operations.

Accordingly, PPR specialises in the manufacturing of rings to customers’ drawings, specifications or as per sample rings provided. We have prepared an inquiry page which explains our identification conventions and any required information.

Oil Control Rings

– Bevel Scraper
Step Bevel scraper oil rings are manufactured with a chamfer on the upper side of the ring, and an undercut on the lower side of ring to obtain basic oil control or can be used in parallel with Slotted oil rings to achieve more effective oil control.
DHOilSK
– Double Hook Scraper
Double hook oil rings are manufactured with a chamfer on the upper side of the rails and an undercut on the lower side of rails to obtain a more effective oil scraping action than the standard Slotted oil rings.

– Slotted Oil Ring
Slotted oil rings are manufactured with straight rails and drain slots to achieve oil control.

Taper Face

TaperFaceSK
Taper face rings are manufactured with a taper on the contact side of the rings to promote faster bedding in of the rings than the standard compression rings.
Rings must be installed with the correct orientation.

Torsional Rings

TorsionalSK
Torsional rings are manufactured with a step or bevel on the inner face of the rings to cause a twisting of the ring when installed in the bore. The twist promotes both faster bedding in of the rings and assists with the oil scraping action.

Angle Step
Angle step rings are ideal for single acting applications.

Applications can also be used with multiple rings installed in opposing directions to achieve double acting operation.

Typical applications.
Plastic injection moulding machines.

ButtCutSK
Butt Cut
Butt cut rings are ideal for lower cost installations where leakage rate is not of primary importance.

Typical applications.
Hydraulic & Pneumatic cylinders, Compressors, Internal combustion engines

HookStepSK
Hook Step
Hook step rings are used for applications where there is restricted access for installation.

i.e.. The ring free diameter is partially constrained by engagement of the lugs for installation purposes.

MitreCutSK
Mitre Cut
Mitre cut are used for similar applications to Butt cut rings but due to the angled joint can be installed with an effective closer gap than the Butt cut option.

Ring Gapping during fit up is slightly more difficult than for the Butt Cut option.

SpecialStepSK
Special Step
Special Step rings are used primarily for hydraulic applications where double acting seals with minimal leakage are required.
StepCutSK
Straight Step Cut
Step cut rings are used for Hydraulic & Pneumatic applications where double acting seals are required, and a degree of leakage is acceptable.

The Step cut option is a lower cost option than either the Special step or the Angle step rings.
